Biography

The story of No Hope In No Jersey begins in Manchester in late 2001.

Andy and Steve shared a flat and had been in a couple of bands together. They had been working on some ideas and were ready to go into a rehearsal room to try and bash out the rough sketches into songs.

This was seen as the perfect antidote to the usual weekend routine but one thing held them back - they didn't have a drummer. A bit of cajoling later and they had secured the services of Steve's brother and drummer par excellence, Craig.

Fast forward two months to early 2002...

...In a leafy suburb of Manchester, an elderly Irish lady complains about the noises emanating from the top floor flat.

Figuring that if old people don't like it, then they must be onto something, the band were freshly inspired and wrote and recorded their four track demo.

It was recorded onto a battered old c90 and posted off to Atlantic Records who responded quickly and positively to the compelling noise...

"Our aim from the beginning was to write exciting music.

Rock music hasn't been done well, without irony, for a long time"
- Andy Garrett

A courtship commenced as more tunes were sent and the label came to see the band play live.

At this point the band was still a trio but realised that a fourth member was needed to take up bass duties from Andy.

Bassists came and went at a fair old rate of knots until Nick Fowler walked in the door and the bands line up was complete. This then freed Andy up to play guitar, his main instrument.

With this new, settled, line up, No Hope In New Jersey were signed to the legendary Atlantic Records.

The band spent the latter part of 2004 familiarising themselves with the sights, sounds and smells of the countries "toilet" venues. The stench of stale beer and
cigarettes made them feel at home in any venue.

Just before Christmas 2004 they were whisked off to a residential studio to record their debut LP. They were there for two weeks and recorded a song a day - who says
that bands aren't efficient!

It was tough, but this is what they had dreamed of when they were rehearsing hard throughout 2003.

So here we are, on the eve of the release of the new single and debut album.

The band have worked hard up to this point but in many ways the real work is yet to come.

The aim is to tour the album far and wide and enable them to make the next one, then the next one, then the next one...
